Printing from your Mobile Device

There will be times that you need to print from your mobile device. This is now possible via email using Mobile iPrint

This is a list of commands you can use on the subject heading

  • To print from a printer named printer1, print printer=printer1
  • To view list of printers that are available to print, list printers
  • To view the list of commands, help
  • default printer=PrinterName - Sets a particular printer as your default printer.

    NOTE: Once you set your default printer, you do not need to specify the printer name while printing to the default printer.

You can also add additional commands on the subject line when sending a print

  • portrait
    [portrait=yes/portrait=y (or) portrait=no/portrait=n]

    Prints your email content in portrait mode.

    For example, print printer=PrinterName portrait=yes

  • landscape
    [landscape=yes/landscape=y (or) landscape=no/landscape=n]

    Prints your email content in landscape mode.

    For example, print printer=PrinterName landscape=yes

  • color
    [color=yes/color=y (or) color=no/color=n]

    Prints your email content in color.

    For example, print printer=PrinterName landscape=yes color=yes

  • pages

    Prints the page(s) specified.

    For example, the command print printer=PrinterName landscape=yes color=yes pages=1-3 prints pages 1,2, and 3.

  • copies

    Prints your email and its attachments for the number of copies specified.

    For example, the command print printer=PrinterName landscape=yes color=yes pages=2 copies=5 prints 5 copies of page 2.

  • duplex
    [duplex=yes/duplex=y (or) duplex=no/duplex=n]

    Prints your email and its attachments on both sides of the printing paper.

    For example, the command print printer=PrinterName landscape=yes color=yes pages=1-4 copies=5 duplex=yes prints 5 copies of pages 1,2,3 and 4 in duplex mode.

  • media

    Prints your email and its attachments with the specified paper type. The default paper type is "Letter". The other available print paper types are A3, A4, and other common paper types.

    For example, the command print printer=PrinterName landscape=yes color=yes pages=1-4 copies=5 duplex=yes media=A3 prints 5 copies of pages 1,2,3 and 4 in duplex mode, in A3 paper type.

  • mailbody
    [mailbody=yes/mailbody=y (or) mailbody=no/mailbody=n]

    Prints the email body and its attachments, or only the attachments from your email.

    For example, using the command print printer=PrinterName landscape=yes color=yes mailbody=no prints only your email attachments in landscape mode.
  • Obtain the unique printer identifier (in this example GWRABC1234)
  • Open your email client
  • In the TO field, type This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
  • In the subject heading type

    print printer=GWRABC1234

    There are various switches you can add to alter the print, these are in the next section

  • Add any attachments you wish to print
  • Click SEND
  • The print can take a few mins, but you will be sent a confirmation / failure via email

No login is required you just need to know the unique nake of the printer which is available via the device. Devices are typically name

GWRABC1234 

ABC = Short-code for the building

1234 = Unique 4 digit number

At present not all devices have been enabled for mobile printing.

Mobile printing is available to anyone with an email client, regardless of device. It is however ideal for users with mobile devices.
